The Brushroll in your vacuum cleaner is made from plastic with bristles that are rotate at high speeds to extract dirt from carpets.

How do brushrolls work?
Vacuum cleaners designed for carpeted floors feature a revolving brushroll that revolves up to 6,500 RPM, driven by a belt attached to the motor. The main effect of a brushroll is to loosen dirt from the carpet fibres and move it upward to the suction motor.

When Should I Replace The Brushroll?
Worn or damaged bristles will not effectively clean your carpet, so replacing the brushroll when the bristles are worn is a must. It's easy to tell when the bristles are worn out as they feel soft instead of stiff, and they may also have split ends.

If your vacuum cleaner is very noisy, the bearings in the brushroll may be defective and consider replacing the brushroll if the bristles are showing signs of wear.

It's also a good idea to replace the belt when the brushroll is replaced.
